Phonak, Unitron BTE Hearing Aid Wax Guard Change, Henley on Thames | Henley Hearing Clinic
Hello my name’s Leon Cox and I’m the audiologist at the hearing clinic Henley. Today’s video will show you how to change the wax guard on your Unitron or Phonak hearing aid.

We’re using an In the Ear hearing aid however the wax guard system is exactly the same on the Receiver In the Canal and the Behind the Ear hearing aid.
The wax guard is the white circular part located at the end of the hearing aid. This typically will become blocked with wax or debris after continual insertion in your ear. You will know that the wax guard needs changing either because you visibly will be able to see that it is blocked with wax or there will be know output from the hearing aid so you wont be able to hear very well with your hearing aid.
The wax guards are in this box. You open the box at the top and take out one of the sticks from inside. This tool is both an extraction tool and an insertion tool. The extraction tool has a small hook on the end. You use this hook to place into the centre of the existing wax guard.
Once you have inserted the stick and you feel it click into the wax guard, you can then remove the dirty filter. If you turn the stick around you can then place the new filter into the hole in the hearing aid. That changes the wax filter for you.
