Accessing the battery

There are two main types of hearing aid that most people will have, there will be in the ear and the behind the ear hearing aid. For the purposes of the hearing aids we are using today, we are using a Completely In the Canal hearing aid and the Receiver In the Canal hearing aid.

The Completely In the Canal hearing aid has a size ten or yellow battery. In order to open the battery door you need to get your nail under the latch, and gently prize the door open. Once the door is open it’s important you that you make sure that the door stays open and doesn’t close again, otherwise it will make it slightly difficult to put the battery in. It’s best to do this over a table so that if you do drop the hearing aid, or you do drop the batteries, it’s easy to find.
The battery typically comes with a tab on the back. Once you take the tab off, the hearing aid begins to work. In order to remove the tab, Literally place the battery in your fingers and remove the tab.

There are two sides to the battery, you have a flat side and a ring side. When inserting the battery into the battery door, ensure that the flat side faces up and the ring side sits in the seated part of the door. Once you are sure that the battery is placed into the door flat, you may close the battery door. Closure of the battery door will turn the hearing aid on. At night when you need to turn the hearing aid off, all you need to do, again is get your finger under the latch and open the battery door.

Changing the battery in the Receiver In the Canal or the Behind the Ear hearing aid is exactly the same. The battery door in these hearing aids is typically located at the bottom. In order to open the battery door you need to, again use your nail to open the latch and carefully open the battery door. The battery that typically fits in these hearing aids is the 312 or brown battery. When inserting the battery ensure that the flat side is facing up, check the other side to ensure you have the seated side and the ring side of the battery facing each other. Once you are sure that the battery is in the door flat, you may close the battery door to turn the hearing aid on. To turn the hearing aid off, exactly the same again, use your nail on the latch to open the battery door. And so that covers changing the battery in your hearing aid.
